Cookie Policy
A clear, honest explanation of the cookies we use, why we use them, and how you can control them.
We keep our cookie usage minimal and purposeful. We do not use cookies for intrusive tracking or sell cookie data to third parties. Most of the cookies we use are strictly necessary for the platform to function.
1 What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to the website owner.
Cookies can be "persistent" (remaining on your device until they expire or you delete them) or "session" cookies (deleted when you close your browser). They can be set by the website you are visiting ("first-party cookies") or by other services that provide content on the page ("third-party cookies").
We also use similar technologies such as local storage and session storage, which serve comparable purposes. References to "cookies" in this policy include these similar technologies.
2 Overview of Cookies We Use
We categorise our cookies into four groups based on their purpose:
| Category | Purpose | Consent Required |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Required for the platform to function - authentication, security, core features | No (strictly necessary) |
| Functional | Remember your preferences - dark mode, sidebar state, display settings | No (strictly necessary) |
| Analytics | Help us understand how people use the platform so we can improve it | Yes |
| Marketing | Used on the marketing website only to measure campaign effectiveness | Yes |
3 Essential Cookies
These cookies are strictly necessary for Interlink Accounts to function. Without them, you would not be able to log in, maintain a session, or use the platform securely. They cannot be disabled.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
interlink_session |
Maintains your authenticated session so you stay logged in as you navigate the platform | 2 hours (or until logout) | First-party, session |
_token |
CSRF protection token that prevents cross-site request forgery attacks on form submissions | Session | First-party, session |
cookie_consent |
Records your cookie preferences so we do not ask you repeatedly | 12 months | First-party, persistent |
4 Functional Cookies
These cookies remember choices you make to provide a more personalised experience. They are considered strictly necessary as they relate to the core functionality of the platform.
| Cookie / Storage | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
darkMode |
Remembers your light/dark mode preference across sessions | Persistent | Local storage |
sidebarOpen |
Remembers whether you prefer the sidebar expanded or collapsed | Persistent | Local storage |
tablePrefs |
Stores your table display preferences such as column widths and sort order | Persistent | Local storage |
lastOrg |
Remembers your most recently accessed organisation for multi-entity users | Persistent | Local storage |
5 Analytics Cookies
These cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the platform and marketing website. All analytics data is aggregated and anonymised - we cannot identify individual users from analytics data.
Analytics cookies are only set if you give consent. You can withdraw consent at any time.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique visitors to calculate audience size and usage patterns | 2 years |
_ga_* |
Google Analytics | Maintains session state for analytics data collection | 2 years |
_gid |
Google Analytics | Distinguishes users for 24-hour reporting periods | 24 hours |
We configure Google Analytics with IP anonymisation enabled and data sharing disabled. We do not use Google Analytics advertising features. We are evaluating privacy-first alternatives and may migrate to a cookieless analytics solution in the future.
6 Marketing Cookies
Marketing cookies are used exclusively on our public marketing website (not within the authenticated application) to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. These cookies are only set with your explicit consent.
We currently use minimal marketing cookies. If we introduce additional marketing cookies in the future, this policy will be updated and your consent will be requested.
7 Third-Party Cookies
Some pages may include content from third-party services that may set their own cookies:
- Google Fonts - We load the Inter typeface from Google Fonts. Google may collect anonymous usage data. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Payment provider - When you enter payment details, our payment processor may set cookies necessary for secure transaction processing.
- HMRC - When connecting to HMRC for MTD via OAuth, HMRC may set cookies during the authorisation flow.
We have no control over third-party cookies. Please review the respective privacy policies of these services for more information about their cookie practices.
8 Managing Cookies
8.1 Cookie Consent
When you first visit our website, we will ask for your consent before setting any non-essential cookies. You can change your preferences at any time by clicking the cookie preferences link in the footer of any page.
8.2 Browser Settings
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically:
- View what cookies are stored on your device
- Delete individual cookies or all cookies
- Block cookies from specific websites
- Block all cookies from being set
- Set preferences for first-party vs third-party cookies
Please note that blocking essential cookies will prevent Interlink Accounts from functioning correctly. You will not be able to log in or use the platform without session cookies enabled.
8.3 Browser-Specific Instructions
For instructions on managing cookies in your browser:
8.4 Local Storage
Local storage items (used for preferences like dark mode and sidebar state) can be cleared through your browser's developer tools or by clearing site data. Unlike cookies, local storage items do not expire automatically but can be removed at any time.
9 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, particularly as we add new features or adopt new technologies. When we make changes:
- We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
- For material changes, we will display a notice and re-request consent where necessary
- We will never introduce intrusive tracking without explicit consent
